Convert an FAA licence/rating using BASA conversion
This form allows you to obtain an EASA PPL based on a US license.
GENERAL INFORMATIONS
1) Licence conversion
- It is possible to convert both an FAA licence to a Part-FCL PPL licence and FAA ratings to Part-FCL ratings. It is not possible to convert Sport and Recreational Pilot licence to Part-FCL. It is not possible to convert FAA type rating, class rating TMG or class rating SET to Part-FCL type rating.
- FAA CPL and FAA ATPL licence holders can benefit from the BASA agreement to obtain a EASA PPL/SEP/MEP/night flight/IR.
- Only holders of a PPL Part FCL licence can benefit from the BASA conversion of their FAA qualifications. Pilots holding a CPL/ATPL Part FCL professional licence cannot benefit from these BASA conversions. This provision has been discussed with EASA.
- Rating MEP and SEP : If a pilot holds an FAA licence with an SEL and MEL, a test on MEP associated or not to a PPL licence issuance also allows the issuance of a SEP without additional requirements. The expiry date of the class rating SEP will be 24 months from the date of the test.
- Rating IR ME and IR SE : If a pilot holds an FAA licence with an IR/SE(A) SP and IR/ME(A) SP, a test on IR/ME(A) SP associated or not to a PPL licence issuance also allows the issuance of a IR/SE(A) SP without additional requirements. The expiry date of the class rating IR/SE(A) SP will be 12 months from the date of the test.
- The language proficiency requirement is not required when converting the Night rating.
- Only pilots who do not hold night rating limitations/restrictions on the FAA license may apply for conversion to Part-FCL Night rating class.
- FCL.055(b) : For a pilot holding an EASA licence without English language proficiency, and holding an FAA licence with English language proficiency (endorsement “English proficient”), it is possible to issue only an English language proficiency endorsement FCL.055(b) level 4 Part-FCL, on the basis of the FAA English language proficiency, without necessarily applying at the same time for the issuance of a licence and/or ratings via BASA.
- If the pilot wishes to endorse English language proficiency level 5 or 6, an examination in accordance with FCL.055(b) will be required. The provision put in place for BASA does not allow the revalidation/renewal of language proficiency on the basis of an FAA licence.
- FCL.055(d) and (b) : For a pilot holding an FAA IR rating, the “English proficient” endorsement also allows the issuance of both FCL.055(d) and FCL.055(b) at level 4, without necessarily applying at the same time for the issuance of a licence and/or ratings via BASA.
- It is not possible to revalidate or renew an English language proficiency endorsement Part-FCL on the basis of an FAA English language proficiency endorsement
